Thanks to the generous support from the Lemann Foundation and the Monteverde Family Foundation, the Roberto Burle Marx Foundation serves as a leading sponsor of Brasil! Brasil! The Birth of Modernism," organised by the Zentrum Paul Klee, Bern, in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Arts, London. This groundbreaking exhibition showcases over 130 works from rarely seen Brazilian private and public collections, featuring significant modernist artists such as Anita Malfatti, Tarsila do Amaral, Alfredo Volpi, Djanira da Motta e Silva, Rubem Valentim, and Flávio de Carvalho. These artists highlight the rich diversity of Brazilian modernism and have historically received less exposure in the UK.

The Roberto Burle Marx Foundation's involvement aims to highlight the rich tapestry of Brazilian modernism, with a special focus on the contributions of Roberto Burle Marx. This emphasis is exemplified by three historic works by Burle Marx, carefully selected by Royal Academy Senior Curator Dr Adrian Locke for their historical significance. Displayed in the distinguished Central Hall, these paintings were last exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1944, viewed by then-Princess, now Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Their poignant return after 80 years enhances their impact. Their strategic placement reinforces the profound connection between past and present and illustrates the enduring influence of Brazilian modernism.
